SUGGESTED ITINERARY - 9 Day Self Drive Tasmania
Day 1 ­ Hobart - Welcome to Tasmania! Hobart is famous for its historic buildings &
scenery. Spend the remainder of the day exploring the city. Take a walk through Battery
Point ­ Hobart's oldest suburb, drive up to Mt Wellington for spectacular views or relax
with a coffee at Salamanca Place.
2 Night Stay - Hobart (see page 60 for accommodation options).
Day 2 ­ Bruny Island - Join a day tour to Bruny Island and spend the day exploring its
fascinating history, wildlife and superb scenery.
Day 3 ­ Strahan - This morning collect your rental car & travel west through the
Derwent Valley stopping at New Norfolk to see Australia's oldest pub, before continuing
to the quaint fishing village of Strahan. This afternoon join the historic West Coast
Wilderness Railway.

Day 4 ­ Gordon River & Cradle Mountain - This morning board the Lady Jane Franklin
II for a day cruising along the World Heritage Listed Gordon River. After the cruise returns
back to Strahan, travel to Cradle Mountain.

Day 5 ­ Cradle Mountain - Today explore the Cradle Valley or simply relax at your
accommodation & enjoy the surrounds before travelling through to Launceston.

Day 6 ­ Launceston & Tamar Valley - Spend the morning exploring Launceston and
the Tamar Valley. This afternoon travel south to Coles Bay, Freycinet National Park.

Day 7 ­ Freycinet National Park - Take today to explore Freycinet National Park ­ go
swimming, snorkelling or fishing from the white sandy beaches, trek through jagged
peaks for spectacular views or relax at Freycinet Lodge with some fine local food & wine.
Day 8 ­ Port Arthur - On the way south to Port Arthur, make a stop at Bonorong Wildlife
Park & get up close and personal with a Tasmania Devil. Travel to the Tasman peninsula
& to Port Arthur. If you're brave enough ­ this evening
join a lantern-lit Ghost Tour.

Day 9 ­ Hobart - Port Arthur is Australia's best-preserved convict settlement and among
the most significant convict-era sites in the world. Join a guided tour of the site and
find out what life was like as a 19th century prisoner before travelling back to Hobart
for an afternoon departure.
