Discover Fauquier August 2017
For Sally DeLuca, the seeds for opening
Hill Antiques & Tea Room were planted in
her youth, when her mother, grandmother, and
aunt gave her tea cups as special occasion
gifts. Sally continued to collect tea cups (which
she still owns and uses), which later led to
collecting tea pots and sets.
"I've always liked putting together collections
and displaying them in interesting ways,"
Sally says. Over the years, she has collected
various items, including bird figurines, gilded
picture frames, angels, and more. She admits
that the element of the hunt is exciting. One
such hunt has been ongoing for well over a
decade! Sally discovered that Hall China's
"Nora" pitcher (also used by her grandmother
in Sally's youth) was created in just six colors.
Her quest will continue until she finds them in
cream and salmon!
Given her upbringing, it's no surprise that
Sally eventually became an avid antique
collector and tea lover. When she opened her
store in The Plains in 2007, the antique shop
and adjoining tea room were immediately
compatible. Not only do the antiques--a
gorgeous variety of vintage furnishings, china,
silver, crystal, jewelry, art, and books--blend
seamlessly with the tea room, the ambiance
is so inviting that it attracts a steady stream of
regular customers.
In addition, Crest Hill Antiques & Tea Room
has become an Anglophile "resource" for local
residents. Sally has organized several trips
to England, which include antique shopping
expeditions, tea room hopping, and much
more. She also began offering a variety of
programs, such as workshops and book
signings, that attract additional guests who
then find it difficult to resist the shop's charm.
As Sally celebrates the shop's 10th
anniversary, she eagerly expresses gratitude
for her loyal customers (now considered
friends) and staff. She credits the latter, which
includes bakers extraordinaire Deany and
Diane, and shop staff Bobi, Claire, Mady,
and Barb, who provide the exquisite food
and inviting atmosphere to all those who step
inside. To learn more, call
