The young thespians at
Shepherd of the
Hills Lutheran Church return with another
unique take on the Nativity--First Noel
Live will be presented onsite at the church
(4090 Sudley Road, Haymarket) on Sunday,
December 14 at 12:15.
As its name suggests, the play offers a fresh
outlook on the Nativity story via a live-news
broadcast, led by Bethlehem Weekend
Update co-anchors Abel Inwilling (played by
high school senior Jo Estrada) and Dinah
Blowerhorn (played
by high school senior
Julia Bonnaire). They
follow an account
of bewildering
Bethlehem events--
with frequent
updates from senior
correspondents who
speak with shepherds, the innkeeper and
his wife, a donkey whisperer, Bethlehem's
newest parents--Mary and Joseph, angels,
and wise men; their combined anecdotes
share the miraculous events of the evening.
Audience participation is encouraged by the
inclusion of several traditional Christmas
carols.
The 15-person cast, six of whom play more
than one role, features youth ranging in
age from 517 years. In addition to the
newscaster roles noted above, the cast
includes: seventh grader Elias Estrada
(innkeeper, king); high school sophomore
Mateo Estrada (lead shepherd Wooly
Allen); seventh grader Myles Grove
(Joseph); kindergartner Eluna Lind (angel);
fifth grader Gavin Odendahl (shepherd,
donkey); eighth grader Jackson Odendahl
(cameraman); eighth graders John Percy
(Gabriel, king) and Micah Percy (reporter
Putcha Feedup, king); second and third
graders, respectively,
Harper and Jackson
Peterson (angels);
third grader Edison
Quimby (shepherd);
sixth grader Harvie
S t r e s e m a n n
(reporter Leeden
Daway, donkey
whisperer Brayen Myere); and fifth grader
Murphie Stresemann (innkeeper's wife,
Mary).
