Moms, Seniors, Business Executives, Students ... have you ever: • woken up in the middle of the night and not been able to get back to sleep? • felt full of fear or anxiety? • felt like you’re living your life on autopilot? • driven to the store or taken a walk only to realize that you’ve missed the whole trip by being lost in thought? • felt stressed, overwhelmed, tired, disconnected? Mindfulness is defined as maintaining a moment-by-moment, non-judgmental awareness of your thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment. Research has shown that practicing mindfulness lowers stress hormones in the body, improves cognitive function, decreases pain, increases mental focus, and lowers depression. Join Biologist and Naturalist, Beth Bidwell, for a program that will introduce you to this rewarding practice. You will learn techniques for quieting the mind, being present in the moment, and reconnecting with yourself. You will leave with tips for including mindfulness in your daily life and sharing your practice with your children and pets. Easy to learn and free to practice, mindfulness gives a great return on your time investment. When every moment of every day is an opportunity to practice, the benefits manifest rapidly! A number of winter programs offered by the Department are available in part because of funding assistance provided by the NYS Office for Children and Family Services and the Warren County Youth Bureau. In this fun, activity-packed program, participants will learn tools to cope with anxiety, fear, pain, and restlessness and to allow more joy into their lives. You will learn techniques to fall asleep more easily, quiet a busy mind, relax before a test, and prepare for a sporting event. You will leave with a handout to help you remember the new techniques that you’ve learned. In today’s busy world, more is asked of us than ever before. Modern technology is bombarding us with world news, interrupting our social activities, and disrupting our sleep schedules. Kids are becoming overwhelmed as they are saddled with adult worries at an age where they don’t have the skills to deal with them. Hanging out with Beth for awhile will equip participants with tools to help them navigate these challenging times. FOR .............................................
