Youth | Adult Activities BOATER SAFETY COURSE The Department will offer the NYS Boating Course, required for anyone 10-17 years of age wishing to operate a powerboat or over 14 to operate a personal watercraft on any body of water within the State. If you are from out of state, New York recognizes the boating safety certificate issued by your home state. BRIANNA’S LAW EFFECTIVE JAN 1, 2020: Who needs a boating safety certificate? If you were born on or after May 1, 1996 you will need a boating safety certificate. Under a new law known as Brianna’s Law, all motor boat operators born on or after: Jan. 1, 1993 will need a boating safety certificate beginning in 2020. Jan. 1, 1988 will need a boating safety certificate beginning in 2022. Jan. 1, 1983 will need a boating safety certificate beginning in 2023. Jan. 1, 1978 will need a boating safety certificate beginning in 2024. All motor boat operators regardless of age will need a boating safety certificate beginning in 2025. ADK Creative Works is a Co-Op where artisans share their creativity, whether it be teaching classes or marketing their handcrafted goods. All instruction provided by ADK Creative Works Educators. Maximum 25 Special Opportunity for Adults UNSOLVED CRIMES — AN EVENING OF MYSTERY AND INTRIGUE! If you like CSI, don’t miss this! During this fascinating program, we will discuss two of the iconic Unsolved Crimes: the Black Dahlia (and possibly connected cases) and the JonBenét Ramsey (the longest ransom note ever received) cases. We will dissect these tragic cases and discuss the details of each. Then, look at the evidence and consider it in light of modern forensic science. We will share ideas of alternative explanations and how we may go about discovering new clues. Instructor, Thom Jones, will share some fascinating discoveries about these cases during the program. Her passion for the arts led her to study art in Siena, Italy, become a tour guide, and work as an apprentice in a clay studio for the duration of her stay. She has traveled to 21 countries in Europe and Africa, while learning new techniques and developing her skills as an artisan. Have you ever wanted to throw on the potter’s wheel? This is the opportunity you have been waiting for! Every participant will have his/her own potter’s wheel for use. No experience is necessary and Heather will teach you all the skills you need. We will create thrown vessels on the wheel during the 4-week program. This is a great opportunity to learn something new and to take a simple lump of clay and watch something truly remarkable happen to it!
