ENQUIRIES AND
COMPLAINTS
The Equal Opportunity Act protects people from discrimination in a range
of areas of public life. The Act provides a mechanism by which people who
have been discriminated against can raise that issue with the Commission
and seek redress quickly through our free, informal and impartial dispute
resolution service.
The Commission is not an advocate for either party but expert conciliators
work with all the people involved in the complaint to try to resolve the
issues raised by the claim. This process allows the parties involved in a
discrimination claim to all have their voices heard and, in most cases, find
common ground and resolution to the claim.
This means people avoid costly and time-consuming litigation and have
much more control over the outcome to their matter.
Over the last three years, the Commission received:
· 7,589 enquiries (201011)
· 9,550 enquiries (201112)
· 10,557 enquiries (201213).
