SOUTH AND WEST 03 Downside School “Downside School: beyond expectation and miles from the ordinary.” Founded in 1606, Downside School is a leading, forward-thinking school for girls and boys based just 25 minutes from the famous World Heritage City of Bath. The School is home to 340 pupils where boarding and day pupils share six Houses, four for boys and two for girls. The School is set in 500 acres of beautiful English countryside and has extensive facilities including an indoor pool, a Mac Suite for music, a 400-seat theatre and a recording studio. Pupils benefit from the boarding ethos of the School, whether they are full boarders, as the majority are or day pupils, who are fully and positively integrated, with all that means in terms of friendships, independence and life skills. Downside is a Catholic School, yet open and welcoming to non-Catholics, who feel encouraged by our approach to education and the values we live by. We are uncompromising in the pursuit of academic excellence. Pupils perform extremely well in the core facilitating subjects, vital to a good university place. A longer day at a boarding school gives more teaching time to all pupils, and small class sizes mean more individual attention from our dedicated teaching staff.
