SCHOOL PROFILE Hull, Iowa 100th Anniversary: Singing God’s Praises from Age to Age are caring and dedicated to Christian education and who incorporate Christian values and beliefs into every part of the school day. Our test scores indicate quality academics, thanks to these gifted professionals. We’re blessed to have a variety of technology available for use in the classroom, which is another great selling point for our school. We’re also happy that we can offer a variety of ways through which families can receive tuition assistance. We’re planning for our future with the approval of a $1.9 million addition/renovation that will provide a science/art lab, improvements for the resource room department, five new classrooms, a stage for performing arts, and security and mechanical updates. These improvements will underscore a quality Christian education for many years to come. t the first society meeting for Hull Christian School in Hull, Iowa, held on March 10, 1909, our first school board members were elected. The first issues facing the board were the hiring of teachers and the construction of a facility. On September 1, 1913, the building was dedicated and the next day classes began. Miss Della Vanden Hoek taught the 1st– 4th grades, and the principal, Mr. Henry Van Zyl, the 5th–8th grades. We are celebrating our 100th anniversary using the theme “Singing God’s Praises from Age to Age.” The theme verse comes from Psalm 100:5, “For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” Throughout the year we’re celebrating in different ways. Each month we’ve invited an alumnus to lead chapel. These graduates have been sharing their experiences at Hull Christian and how these experiences have affected their lives. The primary celebration will be held over three days in April. On April 24 there will be a prek–8th grade music program; Grandparents Day will be held on April 25; and on April 26 there will be a 5K run/walk, along with a kids’ carnival during the day and a banquet and program at night. Over the years the school has wrestled with many issues, including what language to use for instruction and whether to expand our facilities. We moved into a new building in 1955 and since then have made renovations and additions both to it and to our curriculum. Currently we offer a variety of programs that encourage the unique gifts of all our students: jazz band, madrigal dinner theater, math bee, musical and speech competitions, science fair, world cultural events, and a variety of athletic teams. Our curriculum is differentiated and geared toward individual student learning. We continue to look for ways to meet the changing needs of students. We’re working with the Christian Learning Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to find ways both to challenge students who need to be challenged and to assist those who struggle academically. Another challenge for us as a school is learning, implementing, and deciphering the new core curriculum. We’re using Curriculum Track to manage the scope and sequence of our curriculum and are seeking accreditation through Christian Schools International. When speaking with potential new families, we’re always pleased to highlight our high quality teachers and staff, who A School Facts Students: 185 Staff: 26 Opened: September 2, 1913 Chairman of the Board: Matt Vande Hoef Principal: Randy Ten Pas Tuition: $3,974 Website: www.hullchristian.com Mission Statement: To educate covenant children in the light of God’s Word, preparing them for a life of Christian discipleship, responsible stewardship, and humble service in his kingdom.
