SVCF 2013 ANNUAL REPORT
immigration
Our grantmaking in 2013 supported programs that improve legal services for immigrants,
enhance their ability to learn English and succeed in the workforce, and bridge the cultural
gap that often exists between immigrants and their receiving communities.
SVCF made 60 grants totaling $2.2 million under our immigration strategy. Our grants
helped approximately 3,300 adults improved their English skills through courses offered
by our grantees, and more than 21,000 immigrant clients received legal services ranging
from naturalization to complex legal defense with help from our funding.
To further improve services and vocational pathways for immigrants, SVCF helped fund and
create a first-of-its-kind regional network of adult schools, community organizations
and community colleges, the Alliance for Language Learners' Integration, Empowerment
and Success (ALLIES). Because of its groundbreaking work, ALLIES received a $2.6 million
grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.
