SVCF 2013 ANNUAL REPORT
25
supporting organizations
In addition to working with individual, family and corporate donors, SVCF has 14
supporting organizations whose philanthropic missions are in alignment with ours.
Supporting organizations are separate nonprofit entities with their own boards
of directors.
One of SVCF's supporting organizations is Innovate Public Schools, which initiates
and supports great public schools in Silicon Valley, particularly for children from
low-income households and children of color. In its first full year of operation, Innovate
published Broken Promises: The Children Left Behind in Silicon Valley's Public
Schools
, research providing the first comprehensive look at how schools are doing in
preparing children for success in college. The report garnered significant media
attention and is an invaluable tool for those advocating for change. To read the report,

Raising A Reader, another supporting organization, fosters parent-child bonding and
early literacy skills by engaging parents in a routine of daily "book cuddling" with their
children from birth to age 5. Raising A Reader served more than 130,000 children
across the country, 80 percent of whom were living at or below the poverty line. A
$4 million award from the U.S. Department of Education -- Raising A Reader's first
federal grant -- allowed the program to begin serving an additional 20,000 children
in 2013. For more information, visit

Silicon Valley Community Foundation makes all forms of philanthropy
more powerful. We serve as a catalyst and leader for innovative
solutions to our region's most challenging problems, and through our
donors we award more money to charities than any other community
foundation in the United States. SVCF has more than $4.7 billion
in assets under management. As a center of philanthropy, we
provide thousands of individuals, families and corporations with
simple and effective ways to give locally and around the world.
