from the editor Hello and welcome to the Summer Selling & Product Innovation Show edition of OnTrend. This issue is packed full of interesting stuff – I hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed putting it together. I hope you are actually picking up and reading this edition here in New Orleans at our Summer Selling and product innovations Show. If so, be sure you check out the Fresh Products Pavilion. It is over 750 square feet showcasing what’s new and exciting in the world of Fresh Products. The Fresh Products team has been extremely busy in the last couple of months, and now the fruits of their labor are being displayed! There are various stations within the Pavilion – artisanal cheeses, charcuterie, a “no dairy” dairy display for all your consumers with milk allergies and lactose intolerance, as well as a reprise of the Fresh Farmer’s Market that was introduced at last summer’s Holiday Selling and Product Innovations Show. Be sure you stop in and taste some of the wonderful treats that are offered in the charcuterie section. There’s fresh prosciutto, a plethora of salumis, as well as some wonderful pates and terrines. And once you’ve piled your plate full of fresh charcuterie, be sure to stop in and get some artisanal cheese to along with it. You won’t be disappointed, unless, of course, you’re not here, then you’ll have to read about it. Once you’ve filled up on the artisanal products, be sure to stop over and see what retailer solution Terry Rafferty is offering up to our retailer partners who dare to Be dairy free – you can also read about this solution that has a market potential of over 104M consumers. At this show, and in this issue, we like to place special emphasis on the Summer Selling Season; and that means summer grilling! This year, Jim Zografos gives us some insights as to what is driving growth in the category – and it’s not what you think! Take a look at his article Getting Sauced, to find out more. Jim also asks, when do you think the most cocktail mixers are sold? Well, since we’re talking about it during this issue, it’s pretty safe to say that during the summer selling months. I was surprised too, until I found out that the number one selling cocktail in the country is margaritas. Then, it all made sense, the perfect accompaniment on a hot summer day or at a barbecue is a cool Summer Sip, and more often than not, it’s a margarita…at least it is for me! Another key focus for this issue of OnTrend is snacking, read on to find out what Beata Pabian thinks is leading to the Snackification of america. Beata also let’s us know what’s next with gluten free and free from foods in the article Gluten free: What’s next. Also in this issue, our guest contributor Bill Weiland, President & CEO of Presence Marketing/Dynamic Presence gives us some insights into some macro trends to keep an eye on for the coming year. What do you think will be a key trend for the coming year? Read on to find out more. Finally, be sure you check out the second half of this book speed to see all the great new Speed to Shelf New Items as well as shelf seasonally relevant promotions our Category experts have put together for you.
