Hope College students live all aspects of the
best college experience--exceptional aca-
demics, a vibrant Christian environment, and
diverse co-curricular programs. They nurture
their individual talents and perspectives as
members of the 3,200-strong student body
in an environment enabling each person to
contribute according to his or her gifts and
abilities. Hope students come with a desire to
grow--and do they ever!
Hope sets the bar high in all areas. It pairs
students with masterful teachers to collaborate
in research across all disciplines. Hope leads
the country in undergraduate research grants
from the National Science Foundation, but
students interested in the arts and humanities
also do research through the Mellon Scholars
Program, a grant provided by the Andrew W.
Mellon Foundation. This program is designed
to foster faculty-student collaborative research,
as well as engagement with new, internet-
based technologies that are invigorating many fields. Hope is
the only private, four-year undergraduate liberal arts college
in the country nationally accredited in all four areas of the
fine arts, which is important to the balance our students try
to attain. Check out these projects: hope.edu/pr/campusdev/
concertmusic and hope.edu/pr/campusdev/kruizenga.
Students work toward becoming global citizens through
overseas programs in more than two hundred locations in
60 countries or by participating in domestic internship pro-
grams in places like Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, and
Washington, D.C. These opportunities provide life-changing
experiences for students year after year.
Mind, body, and spirit are nurtured at Hope through a vibrant
chapel program and a ministry staff that supports commu-
nity-wide growth in faith. The student's personal faith is
important to the college and is respected. Packed voluntary
chapel services of 1,200 students help engage the growth
process. Bible studies, outreach, praise teams, mission trips,
classroom discussions, and more enhance the individual's
faith journey.
Hope students who believe in making a difference are able
to participate in the college's social activities program. With
an overarching approach to service, our student organiza-
tions (80 plus!) lend support locally through Dance Marathon,
Relay for Life, and mission trips near and far. Diverse oppor-
tunities abound! Hope is home to one of the longest college
traditions in the US, a freshman/sophomore tug-of-war called
the Pull. Intramural programs are popular, too, providing
something for everyone. Student athletes at Hope play in
front of capacity crowds. The ath-
letic facilities are grand in scale, and
the college has been host to NCAA
championships several times. From
top to bottom our teams and coach-
es strive to win, first as students
and then as athletes. A member of
both the country's oldest athletic
conference, the MIAA, and Division
III of the NCAA, Hope competes
with character.
Location, location, location. Visit
our campus in Holland, Michigan,
located along the sandy shores and
dunes of Lake Michigan and a block from an award-winning
downtown. Students have many opportunities to join a won-
derful community at Hope College and in the surrounding
area of 100,000 people.
