Social media is a wonderful way to research prospective colleges and universities. Parents and teens alike can use social media to:
· Connect with the school's admissions counselor, who can accurately answer fact-based questions.
· Converse with current students enrolled in the same major and/or sport that is of interest to them.
· Explore the advantages and disadvantages of several schools of interest.
· Compare financial planning and scholarship info.
· Formulate a list of questions you may have.
· Watch videos.
· Take a virtual tour of the school's campus.
· Sort through majors, affiliation, cost, procedures, etc.
· Stay up-to-date on the latest news, events, and issues.
· Locate application and registration requirements and deadlines.
· Get a sense of community--do the school students seem close-knit, distant, or too into having a good time?
· Easily find out about details such as class size or on-campus groups or ministries.
· Engage in open conversations about aspects that interest, concern, or confuse you.
· Follow certain hashtags associated with a college or university to see what others on Twitter have to say about the school.
· Get a fuller picture of a school's student culture and programs.
· Keep up-to-date on application changes and deadline extensions.
· Get a glimpse into student life on campus.
· Gain valuable information on admission tips and making the transition into college.
· Get a behind-the-scenes look, via Instagram, of daily life on campus that you might not see in the official marketing pieces.
