functi on.
F
antasy FootballŪ is a game played by football fans in which parti cipants
draft their own team and compete with teams built by others. Fantasy
FootballŪ allows fans to take an acti ve, personal role in professional football,
therefore increasing their enjoyment of the game. The fans get to create their
own roster of players by draft ing talent from actual NFLŪ teams. Leagues are
usually formed with 10-14 of these fans, who become the owners/managers
of their own unique roster. A draft is held, where all the league members
get together with each other and draft 14-20 NFLŪ players. At the end of the
season, one owner emerges as the champion. Fantasy FootballŪ has been
played for over 20 years, with an esti mated six to eight million fans involved.
The following acti vity illustrates how spreadsheets can be used to calculate
the points for the top fantasy players in the 2010 NFLŪ season.

1. Create a NEW spreadsheet.
Unless otherwise stated, the font should be 10 point Arial.
2. Type the data as shown.
3. Format the width of columns A C to 20.0 and left align.
4. Bold cell A1 and change the font size to 16 point.
5. Bold row 4.
6. Bold cells A5, A15, and A25.
7. Center align columns D, E, and F.
8. Compute the PTS (Points) in each positi on. Since decimals are not allowed
in the NFL Fantasy FootballŪ scoring system, the ROUNDDOWN functi on is
required to round the answers to the formulas down to the nearest whole
number. The formulas for the fi rst player in each positi on are given below.
a. QUARTERBACKS: Every 20 yards of passing=1 point; every touchdown
pass=2 points; PTS=(YARDS/20)+(TDS*2) in cell F5, type
=ROUNDDOWN(((D5/20)+(E5*2)),0)
b. RUNNING BACKS: Every 10 yards rushing=1 point; every touchdown scored=4
points; PTS=(YARDS/10)+(TDS*4) in cell F15, type
=ROUNDDOWN(((D15/10)+(E15*4)),0)
c. WIDE RECEIVERS: Every 8 yards of receiving=1 point; every touchdown
caught=5 points; PTS=(YARDS/8)+(TDS*5) in cell F25, type
=ROUNDDOWN(((D25/8)+(E25*5)),0)
