R
eality TV has become one of the most popular TV show genres of all
ti me. This surprises many people since television is historically known for
allowing actors and actresses to portray characters and tell stories. Reality
TV takes the acti ng out of the mix and features everyday people in a variety
of situati ons. Shows can be competi ti ve (SurvivorŪ), zany (WipeoutŪ), or even
informati ve (MythBustersŪ). The stars are not trained actors, and the stories
they tell are not scripted. Criti cs claim that many so-called reality shows are
not real at all and att ribute the drama these shows elicit to craft y editi ng. In
any case, viewers are watching, and it looks like reality TV is here to stay.
