HOSTA ‘Sugar and Spice’ 20” x 48” Large $12.95 One of the stars of my new hosta garden, Sugar and Spice is a relatively new introduction with very shiny green leaves and a slightly rippled yellow margin which matures to creamy white. This is a fast growing and vigorous cultivar with few pest problems. It’s an eye-catcher because of its glossy leaves and it’s vigour. Pale lavender fragrant flowers. Photo: Source HOSTA ‘Sum and Substance’ 31” x 70” Giant $12.95 Classic. Immense mounds of shiny yellow to chartreuse foliage with outstanding substance. Deservedly popular. Quickly forms a huge, showy mound. One of the best. Pale lavender flowers. Hostas come and hostas go, but I never tire of a wellgrown 'Sum and Substance' hosta.. Photo courtesy Walters Gardens, Inc. HOSTA ‘Summer Breeze’ 20” x 45” Large $17.95 A remarkably lovely specimen with wide, dazzling gold margins surrounding wavy, heart-shaped deep green leaves. The margins retain their bright golden colour all summer and they actually become wider and more vibrant as the plant matures. The leaves are wavy, slightly corrugated, somewhat unruly and have good substance. Please be warned. This is what I call a gateway hosta. It will please you moderately the first year. It will please you greatly the second year. It will please you excessively the third year. Addiction starts here. Pale lavender flowers. Forms an impressive, broad mound of heavily corrugated foliage with thick, slugresistant foliage. It pairs beautifully with the hosta listed above. The colours are particularly rich and satisfying. Highly recommended. Check out my garden specimen versus the potted ones. They don’t even look like the same variety. White flowers.
