TANACETUM ‘Robinson’s Red’ $11.95 24” – 36” x 36” z3 Painted Daisy Scarlet-red, 2.5-inch wide daisies with bright yellow centres rise above ferny green foliage. Plant in dry to average soil in full sun. Dynamic in large groupings for lots of cut flowers and fantastic impact in the landscape. Vigorous, showy and very easy to grow. This plant is so old-fashioned, it’s almost new again. Lovely, lacy, ferny, blue-green foliage, similar to that of a columbine. Likes part shade and moist soil, but thrives almost anywhere. Drought tolerant. Stunning in bloom. Tall and graceful, with lovely blue-green, ferny foliage. The delicate-appearing leaves emerge in spring a very deep blue-green with purple accents, and the stalks and stems are a vivid, contrasting chartreuse. I find myself visiting this plant about 4-5 times a day. In bloom, mid to late summer, this meadow-rue has a wonderful, misty, cloudy effect, as if someone has painted the air lavender. Lovely in filtered-light, with consistently moist soil. We love watching the reaction of visitors when they see this plant in bloom the first time - much heavy breathing and heaving of bosoms. A profusion of creamy white foamy flowers appear in early spring above pale green, deeply scalloped leaves that turn burnt-red in autumn. A good groundcover; this one blankets our forest, putting on its best and longest floral display when the soil is moist. But even when the spring rains don’t come, tiarella still outperforms most other shade plants. Easily grown in the shade garden, where it often will flower for up to six weeks. This is a spreading plant, useful as a weed-suppressing groundcover. Although it is parent to many new hybrid tiarellas, it still remains one of my favourite native plants for its foamy flowers, attractive leaves and ease of growth.
