Thin, showy wands of vivid red flowers begin blooming in early summer, pick up momentum, appear in huge numbers throughout summer, and continue right into frost. We once counted 200 flowers on one plant! And John’s mother would telephone weekly to report her tally. We love this plant. Most years, it will bloom well into November. Easy to grow in sun to part shade in ordinary to very wet soil. Not invasive. Good cut or dried flower. PHLOX divaricata ‘Blue Perfume’ 12” x 12” z3 Woodland Phlox $8.95 Showy, fragrant, soft blue flowers appear in mid to late spring on this woodland native plant. Foliage is lance-shaped and medium green. Naturalizes easily in moist, shady areas where it will form a weed-suppressing groundcover. Nice with hostas and ferns where it will provide spring interest. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies and is one of their first blooming food sources. I am surprised that this native is not more widely grown. - it is an elegant and beautiful phlox, not to be confused with the brassy Creeping phlox (Phlox subulata). Excellent in part to full shade and rich, moist soil.. Photo: Source www.wild-things.ca 87 1-877-538-3228
