Energy efficiency : why is it so important? - End users need energy in their homes for
heating up their environments during their daily living, warming up the water necessary for showers and
other needs, lighting their rooms when sunlight is not sufficient, cooling down their environment during
hot summer days, ventilating the environment, auxiliary energy which is necessary in case of failure
Concept 2.
Energy efficiency : main technical aspects - End users must become familiar with energy
efficiency technical aspect in order to contribute to the achievement of energy efficiency objectives and to
appreciate their added value.
Concept 3.
Low energy houses' advantages - End users must be aware of the benefits deriving from the
construction of low energy houses' in terms of better indoor comfort, economy, environment
Concept 4.
Low energy houses' characteristics - In order to improve and increase their knowledge and
modify negative behaviours and habits end users must possess and become familiar with concepts such as
sustainability and energy efficiency issues, low energy building, passive houses, zero energy building,
autonomous building, energy-plus house.
Concept 5.
Energy consumption and global climate issues - End users must also know and pay attention
to the global climate issues and relevant future perspectives, that is : global CO
2
emissions, primary energy
consumption in Europe .
Concept 6.
Legislation framework - The legislative framework is another aspect quite important for end
user because energy efficiency is addressed through legislative tools. The main acts to be known are: the
Action Plan for Energy Efficiency, the Energy Performance of Building Directive (EPBD), the incentive
strategies and tools.
