7. Other Elements of Sustainability Certified products
This part of the project concerned the integration of the EU Ecolabel in terms of product use and
information dissemination.

Information about the EU Ecolabel and the equivalent National Ecolabel (The Nordic Swan) and the
Ecolabel products available was provided to the key stakeholders such as the public purchasers and
architects as well as the end users.
The municipality of Egedal is actively promoting the Ecolabels through tenders by asking that products used
comply with criteria based on the ISO type 1 Ecolabels.

A report and three guides were developed within the context of this work. The report covers topics
regarding:
o
Focus groups and end users
o
Ecolabel product groups and products
o
Overview of cost and cost differences
o
Benefits of Ecolabel products
o
Examples of Ecolabel building products and the benefits associated
o
The role of ISO type 1 Ecolabels in the building industry
o
The current situation in 5 countries
o
The role of the Ecolabel in Green Public Procurement
o
Overview of building regulations and building certifications and possible use of the EU Ecolabel
in future BR
o
Overview of existing Ecolabel information/tools/materials etc.

For more information, see deliverable 47 "Use of the European and equivalent ISO type 1 Ecolabels in
the building industry"

The first two guides "Deliverables 24 and 25" were developed to assist the municipalities and the building
industry in integrating the EU Ecolabel in building projects.

These two guides together with material from the report above have been merged into a final guide
"Integrating the EU Ecolabel in building projects".
The purpose of this guide is to provide the public authorities and stakeholders in the building
industry with a simple pragmatic tool that is easy to understand and use in order to reach the
main objective of - integrating the European Ecolabel in building project.
The guide is based on experiences gained in the Class 1 project on integrating the Ecolabel primarily
through Ecolabel product use and secondarily through information dissemination to stakeholders.
The guide describes the "Must Tasks" in 4 phases which are essential in reaching the goal of integrating
Ecolabelled products and services in building projects. The figure below shows the methodology of the
guide diagrammatically.
